Ghostwriter vs. Book Coach vs. Editor

Authors often know they need help, but not what kind. Ghostwriters, book coaches, and editors solve different problems at different stages of the book.

A ghostwriter helps create the manuscript

A ghostwriter is the deepest writing partner. They help shape the idea, interview the author, build the structure, draft chapters, revise voice, and carry the manuscript from concept toward completion.

This is usually the right fit when the author has the message and experience, but not the time, structure, or writing fluency to produce the book alone.

A book coach helps the author write

A book coach does not usually write the book for the author. The coach helps the author keep moving, sharpen the structure, solve chapter problems, and stay accountable.

This is often the right fit when the author wants to do the writing personally but needs guidance and momentum.

An editor strengthens what already exists

An editor works best when there is already a manuscript. Developmental editing handles structure and argument. Line editing handles style and flow. Copyediting handles grammar, consistency, and polish.

If there is no manuscript yet, editing is probably not the first service the author needs.

If you have a book inside you, I would like to hear about it.
